CO₂ Systems by CSF Engineering – Efficient Solutions for CO₂ Generation and Liquefaction

CSF Engineering specializes in the development and manufacturing of compact CO₂ systems for industrial, beverage, and specialty applications. Our plants enable the reliable generation, purification, drying, and liquefaction of carbon dioxide (CO₂) – exactly where it’s needed.

How does a CO₂ system work?

Our CO₂ plants generate carbon dioxide by burning a low-sulfur hydrocarbon fuel (e.g. natural gas, diesel, or LPG). The resulting CO₂-rich flue gas passes through multiple process stages:

  1. Cooling and Pre-Purification: The hot flue gas is cooled using water and cleaned of coarse contaminants.

  2. Absorption: A monoethanolamine (MEA) solution absorbs CO₂ from the flue gas in a packed absorption tower.

  3. Stripping & Purification: In a reboiler unit, the CO₂ is thermally separated from the solution, then purified through filters (moisture separator, activated carbon, potassium permanganate).

  4. Compression and Drying: The purified CO₂ gas is compressed and dried to remove residual moisture and trace impurities.

  5. Liquefaction: Finally, the CO₂ is cooled in a refrigeration condenser to approx. –20 °C and liquefied – ready for storage or further use.

Our CO₂ Systems – Compact, Efficient, and Reliable

We offer tailored solutions for small to medium capacities (e.g. up to 100 kg/h CO₂). Our systems are known for their modular design, high energy efficiency, user-friendly operation, and low maintenance requirements. They are available as compact skid-mounted or containerized units – ideal for customers with limited space or changing production environments.

Typical Applications of Our CO₂ Systems

Our systems are used around the world in a wide range of industries, including:

  • On-site CO₂ Generation from Natural Gas: Autonomous CO₂ supply through clean combustion of natural gas – ideal for remote locations, beverage plants, or facilities without access to external CO₂ sources

  •
  • Beverage Industry: CO₂ for carbonation of soft drinks, beer, and mineral water

  • Food Processing: Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), cooling, and freezing

  • Industrial Gases: CO₂ for welding, laboratories, and technical processes

  • Water and Wastewater Treatment: pH control using CO₂ instead of acids

  • Greenhouses and Aquaculture: CO₂ to enhance plant growth or control biological processes

  • Fire Protection: Filling of CO₂ fire suppression systems
